Welcome to Historic Idaho Springs!

Where History Comes Alive

Idaho Springs sits at the birthplace of Colorado’s gold rush. In 1859, the discovery of gold along Clear Creek sparked a movement that shaped the American West. Prospectors, railroads, and mining innovation transformed this narrow mountain canyon into one of the region’s most significant early settlements.

Historic brick buildings still line Miner Street, and remnants of stamp mills, tunnels, and rail lines remain woven into the landscape. The grit, ambition, and ingenuity of those early days are still visible — not preserved behind glass, but embedded in the town itself.

This is mountain living without the crowds — where adventure starts outside your door and ends with a well-earned local brew. Cheers to Living!

The ARGO Cable Car

Soar To Views Of The Rockies

Opening mid-2026: Rising above town, the ARGO Cable Car offers a new perspective on a storied past. Inspired by the historic ARGO Mill & Tunnel, this scenic ride climbs toward panoramic views of Clear Creek Valley and is said to have one of the best views of the Continental Divide - well, this side of the Continental Divide.

It’s a modern way to experience the terrain that once fueled Colorado’s mining boom — and a reminder of how closely Idaho Springs’ history and landscape remain connected.
